It follows the central ridge westwards from Pico Ruivo to Encumeada, between Laurisilva forest and the volcanic massif, with caves cut into the rock.
Check the status before you go: according to the official site the stretch between Boca das Torrinhas and Encumeada remains closed, and from there you can continue along the PR 2.
