It leads to the island's highest point, Pico Ruivo (1,862 m), from Achada do Teixeira, where the rock formation known as Homem em pé stands. There are several shelters along the trail and you may end up above the sea of clouds.
The weather changes quickly up here, so bring a warm layer; the PR 1, PR 1.1 and PR 1.3 routes all start next to the Pico Ruivo shelter.
